Meet Laureen: Champion of change and adaptation.
After 21 years as vice president of research management at Fidelity Investments, Laureen Ratti retired to travel and be with her new granddaughter. But lucky for Signal Works, she came out of retirement, and we’re the grateful beneficiaries of her results-oriented approach to financial management.
Laureen has served millions of retail brokerage customers over the course of her career and joined the Signal Works team as our finance manager in January 2021.
We sat down with Laureen to ask her a few questions about her career and philosophy.
What is a place that is meaningful to you?
The Woonasquatucket River is a meaningful place for those who live and work along the watershed. In addition to ensuring the continual cleanup of the river and extending the greenway space, the board and staff help people discover its natural resources that channel life and economic development into neighborhoods. I’ve been on the Board of Directors since 2013 and become the president of Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) in 2020. That’s where I became acquainted with Signal Works founder Eric Army, who also serves on the board.
How do you see your work making an impact?
I make an impact by helping a mission-aligned growing company have deeper insights into its business, improving accounting accuracy and installing documented process improvements for long-term sustainability.
Signal Works’ internal and external clients have diverse needs. And I’m proud that I can draw upon my vast wealth of experience to meet them.
Are there any key accolades you’d like to mention?
During my time at Fidelity, the company won several awards based on products and services that I had a hand in creating. I’m also very proud of the work I’ve done as WRWC board president.
When I joined Signal Works, I quickly had to learn the phases and deliverables of an architectural services firm. After I gained an understanding of the process, the accounting team and I used a people-first approach to enhancing and making monthly invoicing more efficient and useful for our clients. We not only created a way to provide customers with an account of their project, but made is easier to deliver invoices and allow our clients to pay online. Moving to an online payment system also created a more efficient process for our contractors to invoice us and receive a timely payment.
Not only was this evolution better for Signal Works, it turned out to be the preferred accounting method for the majority of our customers and contractors — it was a win-win scenario!
